The Dean's brief Profile
Professor Stanley Marshall Makuza is the Executive Dean of the School of Agricultural Sciences and
Technology at Chinhoyi University of Technology. He graduated with a BSc (Animal Science),
University of Zimbabwe 1985, MSc (Animal Science), Michigan State University, USA 1989 and a
PhD (Animal Science), North Carolina State University, USA 1995. After graduation in 1986 he
worked for 6 months as a Poultry Manager at Irvines Day Old Chicks Private Limited in Harare
and another 6 months as a Research Officer in the Farming Systems Research Unit of the Department
of Research and Specialist Services, Ministry of Agriculture in Harare.
Professor Makuza is an Animal Breeder / Geneticist with a minor in Statistics / Biometry who worked
at the University of Zimbabwe, Department of Animal Science as a Lecturer from 1989 and rose to
Full Professor in 2007. He was Chairman of the Department of Animal Science from 2002 to 2004.
For 4 1/2 years he worked as the Founding Dean and Professor of the Faculty of Agriculture at Umutara
Polytechnic, Nyagatare in Rwanda. Professor Makuza has taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses
in Animal Breeding and Genetics, Statistics / Biometry, Data Analysis and Interpretation, Research
Methods and Experimental Designs in Zimbabwe, Malawi, South Africa and Rwanda. Prof Makuza has been
a resource person on several occasions in data use and management training courses for Governmental
and Non-Governmental organisations. He was appointed Professor at Chinhoyi University of Technology
on 1 October 2011 and was Deputy Dean, School of Agricultural Sciences and Technology from 1
December 2011 to 30 April 2012. Professor Makuza served as African Network for Agriculture,
Agroforestry and Natural Resources (ANAFE)'s Southern Africa Regional Forum for Training (SA-RAFT)
Chair and member of ANAFE Board from January 2014 to December 2017.
Professor Makuza has supervised 3 DPhil, 29 MSc / MPhil and 26 BSc students. Professor
Makuza has published 1 Book, 2 Zimbabwe Open University Modules, 4 Book chapters, 60 refereed
Journal publications and 19 refereed conference publications and 9 un-refereed articles.
Professor Makuza has been External Examiner at Bunda College of Agriculture (University of Malawi),
Sokoine University of Agriculture, National University of Rwanda, Africa University, University of
Fort Hare, University of Kwazulu-Natal.
