Department of Clothing and Textile Technology


This is a four year programme designed to produce highly skilled and technologically proficient personnel that will meet the increasing demand for creative, innovative and multifaceted and research oriented designers in applied fashion design industries.

Work placements/international opportunities

As part of your course you are expected to go on industrial for at least 8 months of your third year. You can be attached anywhere around the globe subject t approve by your department and availability of funds. Some of the destinations to which our students have been attached are Zambia, Botswana, and South Africa. Field trips to industry, participation in Zimbabwe Fashion Week activities and competitions, Zimbabwe Fashion Indaba, and HIFA are some of the exciting experiential learning activities you will be exposed to and funded by the university during the course.

Financial support in form of a scholarship to pursue an Mphil Programme in the Department is now available for an outstanding student in the department for the full duration of the programme. The candidate will also be expected to perform four hours of production in the Department's Clothing Manufacturing Unit in an effort marry theory with practice. Research work within the department's thematic areas is an important component of the programme and the candidate will submit a dissertation for assessment.

Entry Requirements

For normal entry, an applicant should have satisfied general requirements as prescribed below:

Have passed at least 5 subjects at Ordinary Level including English Language and Mathematics and at least two subjects at Advanced level or their equivalents .Advanced Level pass in Textiles and Clothing Design, Design and Technology, Art and Design, or any other relevant subject will be an added advantage.

Special Entry

A minimum of a National Diploma in Clothing Technology or in Fashion Design or equivalent from a recognized institution, or

A recognized teaching qualification with specialization in Clothing and Textiles or Fashion Design.

Mature Entry

A person who is at least 25 years of age for males and 23 years for females on the first day of the academic year in which admission is sought and who is not eligible for entry under the Normal or Special Entry regulations may apply for Mature Entry provided that;

  • The Applicant has passed at least five 'O' level subjects including English Language and Mathematics. The applicant must have demonstrated potential suitability for University studies by virtue of his/her attainment of a post-secondary education qualification in a related clothing fashion design subject/ or two years relevant working experience. The Applicant should have completed his/her full-time school or college education at least five years before the start of the academic year in which admission is sought.

    In addition, the applicant should have at least two years of relevant experience in the clothing fashion industry.

Fees and Funding

Students are expected to pay for their studies. Learning materials and equipment will then be provided except for stationery.
