This programme is designed to develop human capital in the field of Travel and Recreation
that have the capacity to meet the industry's operational and development challenges.
Since the Travel and Recreation industry is expected to continue to play an important
role in economic development, not only in Zimbabwe, but at global level, the development
of manpower with the skills, knowledge and ability to facilitate its sustainable growth
is critical. This programme endeavours to meet this challenge through producing a creative
and skilled professional, equipped with scientific, managerial and entrepreneurial skills
capable of adapting to the dynamic needs of the Travel and Recreation industry.
Package and market products of the travel trade in order to meet the needs of travellers.
Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the contemporary issues and fundamentals of the Travel and Recreation industry at local, regional, and international levels.
Employ entrepreneurial skills to grow the current, or to start and run your own business ventures in the Travel and Recreation industry.
Identify and find solutions to problems experienced in the Travel and Recreation industry using research and analytical skills
Contribute towards sustainable growth of the leisure services and products, within a global context, using scientific and managerial skills.
Demonstrate creativity, critical thinking, reflection and application of various Travel and Recreation theories to improve performance of the industry operations.
After successful completion of the degree programme, a student will be able to start his/her own Travel and Recreation business
ventures given the entrepreneurial training offered. Graduates will also have many employment possibilities such as: leisure
services marketers, leisure and recreation services managers, travel consultants, tour operators, travel agents, researchers,
recreation therapists, resort managers, municipal/campus recreation program coordinators, leisure services programmers
(leisure event managers), airline crew members, country club managers and recreational managers
Work placements/international opportunities
As part of your course you will undertake at least eight months supervised industrial attachment,
anywhere in the country (subject to approval by tutors). You may also engage in fieldwork as part
of your final year dissertation, while other opportunities may exist for work-based learning in the University's
Normal Entry Requirements:
A candidate must have at least five 'O' level passes including English Language and Mathematics.
Candidates should also have at least two Advanced Level passes in Arts, Commercials or Humanities subjects.
A candidate, who holds at least a National Diploma in Travel Tourism or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution, may be considered for direct entry.
Conditions for mature entry are as stipulated in the General Academic Regulations of the University.
