FUNCTIONS OF THE OFFICE OF DIRECTOR OF RESEARCH

The Office of Director of Research takes responsibility for the management and implementation of the research policy of the University. The Office is also responsible for driving the research agenda of the University through coordination of all research activities in the University. This Office is the 'clearing house' of all research matters in the University. The functions of the Office of Director of Research are as follows:

Spearheading the development of all research-oriented policies Managing the implementation of the University's research policies Coordinating the development of the University research agenda and managing its implementation Mobilisation of resources for all matters related to funding and material requirements for research Facilitating collaborative research through establishment of partnerships with various research entities In conjunction with the Research Committee of Senate, allocating the University research budget to Schools/Institute Supervising and monitoring the use of research funds by Schools/Institute Managing and allocating any funds such as trusts, endowments and other such funds bequeathed to the University for research purposes Assisting researchers with the development of fundable research proposals in conformity with set and standard University code for best practice Oversight of all central issues related to research

Providing necessary support to create an enabling environment for all research activities in the University pertaining to such issues as, contracts, budgets and IPR.
 

OFFICE OF THE DIRECTOR OF RESEARCH

Departments are the functional units where all research programmes are carried out. Each department has a research representative who sits on the School/Institute research committee. The function of the School/Institute research committee is to coordinate all research activities across departments in the School/Institute. The chairperson of this committee represents the School in the Research Committee of Senate (RCS) whose major responsibility is to manage research activities on behalf of Senate. The Research Committee of Senate is chaired by the Director of Research and its membership is as follows:
