INTRODUCTION

The Bachelor of Science honours degree in public finance and accounting is a four-year full time honours degree programme. The degree programme focuses in the Public Sector Accounting and Finance as an area of study. The programme will be offered both on full-time and block release basis.
 

Aims and Objectives

This programme aims to:-

Create and develop opportunities by introducing the Accounting profession to Public Sector organization and Parastatals To promote post qualifying professional development and improvements Train and produce strategic and enterprising Accountancy professionals Support the Accounting profession by churning out visionary global thinkers and strategic business drivers of the highest caliber.

Qualifications for entry to programme

Normal Entry:
  Candidates should:-

Have at least 5 subjects at O-level including Mathematics and English Have good passes in a least two subjects at A-level which must include Accounting and any commercial related subject(s) from the following list:- economics, Statistics, Management of Business, Computers and Mathematics

Special Entry
  Candidates should have a minimum National Diploma in Accounting or equivalents.

Career opportunities

Graduates of these programmes will practice as Accountants, Auditors and Financial Managers/ Directors and as tax Consultancy in both the public and private sectors. They can also set up consultants and entrepreneurs, or pursue higher degrees at this or other universities with a view to becoming senior policymakers, academics and researchers. There are also opportunities to go and practice in the region or abroad.
