Department of Retail Management
INTRODUCTION
The Bachelor of Technology Honours Degree in Retail Management is a four year full time honours degree programme. The degree programme focuses on Retail Management as an area of study.
Aims and objectives
This programme aims to:
- Produce strategic and enterprising Retail Industry professionals and entrepreneurs
- Create a pool of highly qualified world class top management for the Retails Sector to steer this industry into the future.
- Support the Retail Industry by churning out visionary global thinkers and strategic business drivers of the highest grade.

Qualifications for entry to programme
Normal Entry
For normal entry candidates should:
- Have passed at least 5 subjects at Ordinary level including Mathematics or approved equivalents
- English at Ordinary Level would be a requirement
- Have passed in at a least two subjects at A-Level. Preference will be given to those with commercial related subjects e.g.: Mathematics, Accounting, Economics, Management of Business, Sociology and Geography

Candidates should have a National Diploma in Business Studies or equivalent.

Career opportunities
Graduates have a wide choice of career paths in all sectors of the economy e.g., working as middle to senior managers in the retail sector which is made up of manufacturers, wholesalers, transnational and other supermarket chains, hypermarkets, grocers, dealers, sole traders, tourism and hospitality outlets and any other outlets selling to the final consumers as well as related jobs in commerce and industry and in public sector. They can also pursue careers as teachers/lectures in tertiary education institutions. Most importantly, they can set up their own business or set up as consultants. There are also opportunities to go and practice in the region and abroad. Others can pursue higher degrees at this and other universities with a view to becoming academics/lectures and researchers, as well as senior managers in the public and private sectors.
