Department of HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM

INTRODUCTION

The Bachelor of Technology degree in Hospitality and Tourism is a four-year full time Honours Degree Programme. The programme of study comprises six semesters of full time studies at the University and one year of industrial attachment. The degree programme focuses on Hospitality and Tourism as two interrelated areas of study.
 

AIMS

The program aims at producing a technically skilled professional equipped with management and entrepreneurial skills and who is capable of adapting to the dynamic needs of the hospitality and tourism industry.

 

Qualifications for entry to programme

Normal Entry:

Prospective students must comply with Section 3 of the General Regulations of the Chinhoyi University of Technology. Generally, entry requirements for acceptance are good Advanced Level passes in Geography, Management of Business, Accounting, Economics and Food Science or acceptable equivalents. For selection purposes, credit will be given for 'O' level passes in Chemistry, Biology, Food and Nutrition or Food Science. 'O' Level passes in English, Science and Mathematics are a requirement A candidate, who holds an Advanced/ Higher National Diploma in Tourism and Hospitality Management or its equivalent qualifications from a recognised institution may be considered for direct entry into semester 3 of the Programme, provided they have covered all the necessary courses and have good passes.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

After successfully completing the degree programmes offered by the Department, students would be able to start their own Hospitality and Tourism Operations and ventures given the entrepreneurial training offered. Graduates can also choose to work for already established companies and organizations in the country and internationally. Students also have the choice of pursuing training in education during the course of their students.
