INTRODUCTION
Travel and Recreation is recognized as one of the world's highest priority industries due to the revenue it generates, infrastructure development and the large number of people employed. Recent environmental scans, scholarly and industry publications indicate a great demand for International travel trade, outdoor recreation, cruise liners, adventure travel and eco-tourism. Technological improvements and globalization have made Travel and Recreation more sophisticated. The degree programme therefore prepares students to analyze and understand these critical topical issues, which are pertinent to the field of Travel and Recreation.
AIMS
The programme aims at producing a technically skilled professional, equipped with management and entrepreneurial skills and who is capable of adapting to the dynamic needs of the travel, leisure and recreation industry.
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
By the end of the programme, students should demonstrate the ability to:
- Package and sell components of the Travel Trade and prepare relevant travel documentation in order to meet the needs of travellers.
- Enhance industry and leadership skills for travel and recreation sectors and apply creative and critical thinking technique towards challenges confronting the travel and recreation trade sectors.
- Contribute towards sustainable growth of the Zimbabwean leisure services and products, within a global context, in order to meet the needs of domestic and international markets
- Develop appropriate technological and scientific skills that will facilitate swift international travel and detect potential threats
- Manage the technological trends shaping travel and recreation in the near and distant future.

Qualifications for entry to programme
Normal Entry:
Candidates should:-
- Have passed at least 5 subjects at Ordinary level including Mathematics and English Language.
- Have at least two passes at Advanced level preferably in any of the following subjects: Geography, Management of Business, Accounting and Economics.

Special Entry
- A candidate, who holds at least a National Diploma in Travel and Tourism or its equivalent qualification from a recognised institution, may be considered for direct entry.

Career opportunities
After successful completion of the degree programme students will be able to start their own Travel and Recreation ventures given the entrepreneurial training offered. Graduates can choose to work for already established companies and organizations in fields such as Event Planning and management, Tour Operations, Travel Agencies, Guide Services, Air and cruise lines, Resort management, Front Office Operations etc. Students also have the option of pursuing further education related to Travel and Recreation.
