INTRODUCTION

The Bachelor of Technology Honours Degree in Wildlife and Safari Management is specialized in aspects of flora and fauna at local, regional and international scale. The degree focuses on tourism's most important attractions including the well-known Big Five wild animals, marine, barbet and botany. Students get to become part of the wilderness and an acculturation towards wildlife and safari will be engrained practically through fieldwork.
 

AIMS

The programme aims at producing a technically skilled professional, equipped with management and entrepreneurial skills and who is capable of adapting to the dynamic needs of the wildlife and safari industry.
 

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

By the end of the programme, students should demonstrate the ability to:
  1. Explain the evolution, migration, and transgression patterns of wildlife.
  2. Decipher different wildlife species, habitat and sustainable use.
  3. Develop and manage sustainable wildlife and safari operations.
  4. Offer expert knowledge and advice on the operations and management of safari ventures in harmony with nature.

Qualifications for entry to programme

Normal Entry:
Candidates should:-
  1. Have passed at least 5 subjects at Ordinary level including Mathematics, English Language and Science.
  2. Have passed any two 'A' level subjects preferably Biology.
Special Entry
  1. A candidate, who holds at least a National Diploma in Wildlife Studies or other equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution, may be considered for direct entry.

Career opportunities

After successfully completing the Bachelor of Technology Honours degree in Wildlife and Safari Management, students would be able to start their own wildlife and safari ventures. Graduates can also choose to work for already established companies and organizations as tour guides, marine biologist/scientists, commercial rangers, developers of game parks and sanctuaries. Graduates may also be employed as event planners and function coordinators for national and regional recreational activities/events such as tiger fishing, trophy hunting etc. They may also be employed as managers / officers in varied wildlife and safari operations, National Museum and Monuments.
